Secondary (Grades 7-12)

Lakeview’s secondary program (grades 7-12) is faith-based and God-centered. In the secondary program LCS continues instruction in the foundational courses—English, math, history, and science.  Our elective courses include two foreign language courses (American Sign Language and Spanish), fines arts courses (art, band, and choir), and other options, such as yearbook and business courses, on a rotating basis.  Additionally, students are required to take a Bible course each year, with classes meeting every day, and attend a weekly chapel service.

(English) Miss Harsh has a passion for serving middle school and high school students and appreciates impacting students’ lives both spiritually and academically. She has over 30 years’ experience in education and has a B.S. from Clark Summit University and a M.A from the University of Indianapolis. She is an adjunct professor at Indiana Wesleyan University and has a lifetime ACSI certification.

“I am a product of Christian education. I attended a Christian school from 4th grade through 12th grade and then attended a Christian college. I know first-hand the value of a Christian education.”

Mr. Sluss studied Biology and Secondary Education at Indiana Wesleyan University.  Due to a statewide teacher layoff and hiring freeze, and not wanting to leave the area for family and ministry reasons, he returned to IWU and completed a degree in Medical Technology.  Board Certified by the Amerian Society of Clinical Pathologists, he worked as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist and Lab Supervisor.  He returned to the classroom as an adjunct instructor at Ivy Tech Community College.  After a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis that resulted in him having to stop working, a miracle of God's grace has allowed his health to improve.

"I believe God has given me a second chance and I want my life to impact my community and make a difference in His kingdom. I fell in love with science in high school because it opened a window to the wonders of creation, and I realized by understanding creation better, we get to know our creator better. I want to open that window for my students."

Mr. Gagnon is licensed to Teach Historical Perspectives from grades 5-12. His hope is to add endorsements to teach Government, Economics, Psychology, and Sociology this summer.

This will be Mr. Gagnon's  first year in charge of his own classroom as the teacher. He graduated as the 2018 Class of Taylor University with a Social Studies Education BS, the focus being in the area of Political Science and Government. Mr. Gagnon has worked summer school with classes of around 50 senior students for the past four years, and he has been committed to Youth Ministry at his Home Church in Silver Lake, Indiana for the past five years.

”I’m ecstatic to be able to start my first year of teaching and showing my passion for History to all the students I’ll be able to instruct. My hope is that students will find the stories from History that I teach to be informative, eye opening, and fun."

Mrs. Deven Swan was called to be a teacher at age twelve.  She holds a BS and MEd from Indiana Wesleyan University in Education.  Mrs. Swan has been working at LCS since Fall 2003.  She enjoys teaching a variety of subject areas and is looking forward to returning to the classroom this year.  She and her husband, Stephen, have five children and live on the family farm east of Marion.
